Classroom Jobs

For my classroom I will have a bucket full of job cards. I will have 26 students in my classroom. I want to have the most useful jobs for them to learn to be responsible and also to help them feel important.

I will show the class the jobs that we will have for the year. I will demonstrate how to do each job so that they know how to do it. If they have trouble doing it correctly the first time they can try again the next day.

The jobs will be assigned to each student randomly and will last for an entire week. The jobs are going to be distributed from my jar of clip pins. Each clip pin has the name of a student. I will choose a random name and place them on a job.

Then I will switch the clip pins to the next available job for that week. I will do this so that each student has done the job at least once. After the first week I do expect them to know how to do their job properly.

A list of individual jobs that I would have in my classroom is:

  • line leader

  • electrician

  • calendar helper

  • white board/smart board helper

  • folder manager

  • library helper

  • center helper

  • teacher assistant

  • pencil helper

  • desk/floor inspector

  • errand runner

  • applause helper

  • recess helper

  • snack assistant

  • hand sanitizer helper

  • weather watcher

  • time keeper

  • door helper

  • roll/attendance taker

  • paper collector

I could also create team jobs. This is where I would have three to five students doing a job.

A list of team jobs that I would have in my classroom is:

  • teacher assistants

  • pencil sharpening team

  • technician team

  • supplies team

  • chair team

  • white board/smart board team

  • clean up team
